Katha Dance Theatre is teaming up with musician and composer J.D. Steele on "Shaamya - Of Equality," a new dance work that celebrates the legacy of the late writer and activist Kazi Nazrul Islam. Inspired by Nazrul's poetry, "Of Equality" attempts to draw parallels between the experiences of today's oppressed communities with those expressed by Nazrul in his time. In portraying his work through a mixture of classical Indian dance, original songs by Steele and poetry by playwright Ifrah Mansour, "Of Equality" shows that Nazrul's work echoes today's political and artistic climates, transcending time and place. This 40-minute work-in-progress performance is followed by a 20-minute post-show discussion. General admission tickets are $10, youth (15 and under) tickets are $5. Or, pay what you can.
