Every year, April is officially observed as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) throughout the United States after many decades of social activism, mobilization and advocacy recognizing the intersection of race-based and gender-based violences. SAAM is nationally observed by communities, organizations, governmental agencies and campuses, in spreading education, preventative measures, advocacy, healing, empowerment, and action all across.
As a direct service provider for gender-based violence prevention work in Minnesota, SEWA-AIFW recognizes the necessity to highlight sexual assault & violence within the South Asian diaspora. SEWA is honored to host our 2nd Annual "Ummid for Safety" space on April 26, 2025, providing resources, performances, and artistic & cultural healing centered around sexual assault awareness for South Asian and other BIPOC community members and survivors in the Twin Cities. "Ummid" means hope, expectation, or belief in Hindi and Urdu. Ummid for Safety is a warm and supportive safe space designed to promote healing and compassion through art and immersive experiences, for our community. SEWA warmly invites artists, writers, healers, and service providers who are interested in collaborating for this event to please apply with the link presented on the flyer.
